SSL Update Service for WordPress

Beginning July 2018, the anticipated Google Chrome update will enforce that your Website properly displays that it is SECURE  signifying that you have SSL Certificate properly installed on your website.  You may have purchased an SSL or it may have been provided by a hosting provider; but if it doesn’t reflect “SECURE” in the browser address bar, the traffic to your website could turn the other way and leave.

Web developers have been warned for several years that this change was pending.  However; with DIY designers or designers with little technical knowledge, you may be unaware of the risks you’re facing and should pursue some technical assistance before July 2018 when the new Google Chrome algorithm will put greater emphasis on notifying your potential guests if your site is “Not Secure”.

So, How Do You Know If Your Site is SSL Ready?

If you have an SSL properly installed on your website, it will look like this:

Browser line with green lock ans SECURE

If you do not have an SSL or your SSL is not properly installed, it will look like this:

lower case i in a circle on the browser line in chrome showing your connection to the site is not secure.

Additionally, if you have a SymantecGeoTrustRapidSSL or Thawte SSL Certificate issued between June 2016 and December 2017, visitors may also encounter a new working that looks like this:

Make Sure Your “Secure” with our SSL Validation Service

We realize all of this can be confusing – especially if you’re not comfortable with technical stuff, but we are – so here’s what we can do to help you:

  • We will check to see if you have an SSL in place.
  • If you do have an SSL in place, we’ll examine it to determine if it was issued by Symantec, GeoTrust, RapidSSL or Thawteone.  If so, we will make sure the certificate was issued between the appropriate dates and trusted by Google.
  • If WordPress, we will make technical updates to your website files to make sure it recognizes the SSL certificate.
  • We will then test and resolve any errors that might arise until the site responds with a green “Secure” notice.
