Cyber Security Is Everyone’s Business

Man in suit, finger on lockST. PETERS, MO – In recognition of October being National Cyber Security Awareness Month, the St. Charles County Library, Spencer Creek Branch, will be hosting a free event on Wednesday, October 17th from 6:30 – 8:00 pm that identifies the cyber security risks at stake for small business owners and provides guidance on a multi-layered approach to protecting your business.  This event will feature local business professional, Julia Eudy, President of Golden Services Group, LLC, who is a web security specialist and Adjunct Instructor at St. Charles Community College. This conversation will cover the biggest technical risks as well as highlight questions business owners should be asking regarding how to protect their business and will explore common technical risks as well as things to think about like insurance and legal liability to protect their customers’ data.  Those in attendance will walk away with a detailed checklist of things to consider in protecting their business.

“Cyber Security is thought to be a big-business problem because that’s what we hear about in the news, but small businesses are the real target for most hackers because they are typically left unprotected, making them an easy doorway to a bigger prize.  In fact, according to a 2018 Kaspersky Lab Survey, data breaches are up approximately 36% since 2018, costing the average small business approximately $120,000 in fees, penalties and technical repair to recover.  This doesn’t include the hit to their reputation.  Now more than ever, businesses must take a pro-active approach to data security.  It’s not hard, just essential they make a recovery plan now, so they’re prepared when it happens. If they have a website or share customer data with any online third-party software or provider, they need to be here.”  – Julia Eudy
